How Much Can I Make Without a Blog or Newsletter

Pennies, hundreds, thousands?

Doing research makes writing feel like work to me. I did my fill of research in college. I’ve tried keeping a niche blog over the years, but I’ve abandoned them over and over again. I find emails to be intrusive. I don’t want to intrude on others even if they did sign up for it. A newsletter is more work. When writing becomes work, it takes all the pleasure out of it.

I’m a storyteller. I like to write about life and write it off the top of my head. Before I started writing for Medium, ideas would pop into my mind frequently. I’d always think to myself, I should write about that, but I never did. Of course, many books, plays, and movies are written about real life. I might write that book someday. I keep saying I’m going to write a memoir for my children, grandchildren, and descendants. I would love to read a book about my ancestors. Maybe I’ll compile some of my Medium essays into an ebook.

My favorite essays on Medium are true stories written from the heart. My grandfather said you’d better keep those skeletons in the closet. I say open that closet door. We all have skeletons in our closets. Share them, and share them with the world. Although, share only those that are legal.

I imagine I’ll continue to make peanuts on Medium, but that’s okay. I’ll have fun doing it. Medium is my blog. It’s a receptacle for all those thoughts that pop into my head.
