Let Me Introduce Myself
--
Whenever I write or comment on race or politics, I get called names or accused of being racist, a privileged white woman, and conservative. I think I’ve figured out why people have this perception of me.
My values, beliefs, and opinions are not black and white; no pun intended. I think most people label themselves as either conservative, liberal, or progressive. I fall into none of those categories, and at the same time, I fall into all of them. I think for myself.
For all of you who think you know me, I’m going to clear up some things:
Politically speaking: I was a registered Democrat until a few years ago when I decided they had gone off the deep end. I changed my political party to Independent. Both parties have lost their brains and don’t know where to find them as far as I’m concerned. I’m very disappointed in my country, the USA, at this time. I think President Clinton and President Obama were the last true leaders in the U.S. I don’t care who Clinton had sex with. That’s his business and had nothing to do with running the country. I think the Obamas were the classiest family to ever live in the White House.
Climate change: Whether it is man-made or a natural cycle we’re going through, I don’t know. I’m not a scientist. However, I do think we need to do all we can to avoid contributing to it. China is the worst polluter in the world, thanks to the gluttonous consumerism of Americans.
Religion: Although I was raised Christian, I haven’t been inside a church in many years. Now that my children are grown, I treat Christmas like any other day of the year. I wrote a couple of articles targeting atheists a few months back that still garners the ire of readers. Since atheism means a lack of belief in a God, I have to admit that I’m an atheist. Some people consider the universe or nature to be God. I could go along with that, but I can’t buy the God made in the image of man, or man made in the image of God, or whatever.
Racism: I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; everybody is racist. According to Webster’s Dictionary racism is; prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism directed against a person or people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.
